VISIONS OF FRANCE
Provence celebrates the timeless charms of one of the French countryside's most popular travel destinations. A helicopter-mounted camera provides dazzling views from the mountains of Luberon to the Grand Canyon of Verdon and more, enhanced by historical narrative and set to regional music.
From Arles to Avignon to Aix, Provence has long been a source
of inspiration for great writers and painters - Saint-Exupery
("The Little Prince"), van Gogh, Cézanne and its great Romanesque cities, hilltop towns, bustling fishing ports, summer resorts, vast vineyards, picturesque churches and chateaus are even more irresistible from this new perspective. VISIONS OF FRANCE: Provence showcases the region's distinctive palette, on full display in the untamed Camargue delta where bands of white horses roam and pink flamingoes take flight; over luscious olive groves and lavender fields; or just winding along the Rhône
and Durance rivers to the blue Mediterranean.
The Riviera
The Riviera showcases the sun-splashed Mediterranean wonderland
known as the Cóte d'Azur. A helicopter-mounted camera
offers unprecedented access to this playground of the rich
and famous, from the sparkling cobalt waters of fashionable
beach resorts to rugged Alpine retreats.
Following along scenic ö and precarious - roads, or corniches,
that curve sharply along the coast, VISIONS OF FRANCE: The
Riviera pairs dramatic aerial views of Monaco, Cannes, Nice,
St. Tropez and more with informative narration, set to regional
music.
VISIONS OF GERMANY
Along the Rhine follows the lyrical path of the Rhine River through Germany's southwestern region. Aerial footage, informative narration, and a local soundtrack including native sons Ludwig von Beethoven and Richard Wagner (and, if you listen closely, the siren song of the Lorelei) combine for an enchanting journey. The river provides the perfect itinerary from Lake Constance to Cologne, with side trips to the Grimm Brothers' Black Forest, cosmopolitan Frankfurt, the rich wine region, historic Bonn, Heidelberg, the romantic string of castles like beads on a necklace at Koblenz, and more.
Bavaria
Bavaria showcases the diversity of Germany's southeastern region
- from the old world charm of castles, fortresses and gardens
to the Mediterranean flair of the Bodensee, the "German Riviera;" from
the depths of King Ludwig's madness revealed in fantastic castles
like Schloss Neuschwanstein to the drama of Germany's highest
peak at Zugspitze. Stunning aerial visuals are set to a soundtrack
of local compositions - folk tunes one might hear in the bier
gartens as well as the classical incarnations of the region
like Johann Strauss' Blue Danube Waltz - paired with enough
narration to inform but not intrude on the experience.
Bavaria takes flight in the bucolic countryside for a journey filled with royal intrigue, Alpine majesty, and charming villages where the past has a constant presence. Whether circling the old walled city of Rothenburg on the Tauber River; tracking the impressive span of Renaissance era mansions on the Maximilianstrasse or the autobahn; following along at Passau where the distinct colors of three rivers meet; waiting for the clockwork choreography of the Glockenspiel in Munich's Marienplatz square; admiring the glorious monuments in the ancient Roman city of Augsburg; climbing along the ski lifts of snow-covered mountain resort towns; or quietly gliding over the lakeside promenade in Friedrichshafen like one of Count Ferdinand Zeppelin's famed namesake airships, the helicopter-mounted camera reveals a fairy tale brought to life.

VISIONS OF GREECE
VISIONS OF GREECE is a virtual postcard vivid with a palette of pure white-sand beaches and the essential blue of island coastlines and church domes, set to a soundtrack of traditional and modern Greek music, with a poetic narrative that celebrates Greece's history and mythology. Lifting off from Athens, we embark on a modern odyssey as varied and dramatic as Greek history, exploring exotic islands scattered like stones in the Aegean sea; storied ruins; verdant hills; rocky coastlines; and timeless tradition. Shot in high definition from a helicopter-mounted camera, VISIONS OF GREECE showcases the mainland of Greece and the Greek islands from a vantage point only the gods on Mount Olympus have had before! Join us for an itinerary that will thrill world travelers, historians, and Greek-Americans alike, from Corfu to Crete, Meteora to Mikonos, the Peloponese, Rhodes, Santorini, Thessaloniki, and every glorious destination along the way.
Off the Beaten Path
VISIONS OF GREECE: Off the Beaten Path is the intrepid traveler's Greece, showcasing the scenic diversity of a complex Mediterranean character. Seductive and soulful, this aerial tour of the mainland and islands is set to a soundtrack of traditional Greek music that is the Siren's call to the unusual, the unexpected and the incomparable.
Shot in high definition from a helicopter-mounted camera, VISIONS OF GREECE: Off the Beaten Path begins far from the tourist trade in Thraki, the remote northeastern corner of the mainland that is the least populated area of Greece. In Macedonia, once the capital of an ancient empire, flatlands give way to lush, rolling hills and the rugged Rodope mountain range. Crete and Corfu draw tourists from all over the world to wall to wall resorts and pristine beaches but off the beaten path the camera finds small port towns and other treasures few travelers have a chance to explore.
Off the Beaten Path reveals some startling surprises -- the
smoldering crater of the Nissos volcano; the snow-covered mountains
of Lefká; a monastery on Ourimopolis whose tradition
maintains visitors at a 500-yard distance from the peninsula
borders; the remains of 2,000 year old agoras, ancient marketplaces
that still bustle with the daily rhythms of Greek city life;
hilltop towns and old fishing villages where the past echoes
like a familiar refrain; and the glorious lake region of the
northern mainland.

Southern Style
Shot in high-definition video from a helicopter-mounted camera,
VISIONS OF ITALY: Southern Style takes viewers on a seamless
soujourn following along the rugged western coastline to the
toe of the "boot" at Reggio di Calabria, and then inland over
the countryside to Rome. This one-hour program features stunning
aerial footage, an informative and poetic narrative celebrating
southern Italy's considerable charms and a soundtrack that
underscores the emotional connections America's Italians have
for their motherland. Images of Italy no tourist's camera could
capture are set to Neapolitan classics, choral selections,
Italian folk songs, and the works of Italian composers such
as Rossini, Puccini, and Vivaldi, with Italian-American performers
including Connie Francis and Michael Amante.
There has never been a show like this because it is nearly impossible to find a helicopter company in Italy willing to go through the difficulty of acquiring the specific permits needed to shoot over Rome! Precision planning on the ground with compasses determined the best time of day to avoid shadows on the major sites from the many buildings in this densely packed city. And the results are definitely worth it. Even if you have been to southern Italy, you have never seen it like this.
A majority of Italian-Americans can trace their roots to southern
Italy, and for many this program will be a first look at the
small villages of Il Mezzogiorno – "the midday" - (Puglia, Abruzzi, Basilicata, Campania, Calabria) their ancestors left generations ago, in many ways unchanged by time. Our helicopter flies over the most popular destinations in southern Italy - the romance of the Amalfi Coast (and the hairpin turns of the Amalfi Drive!); the bustling international seaport of Naples and the jewels among its islands, Ischia and Capri; the majesty of Vesuvius; the ruins of Pompei; Rome's Scalinata di Piazza di Spagna (Spanish Steps) and Colosseum– but
VISIONS OF ITALY: Southern Style's flight also reveals extraordinary
sights that don't make most itineraries.
Southern Style also takes viewers over the charming cliffsides
of Sorrento and the picturesque fishing ports of Positano,
San Marco, Nicotera, Diamante and other stops along the "Calabrian Riviera;" up the "Valley of the Dragon" to
towering Ravello; past the pristine Greek temples at Paestum;
into the heart of the action at the bustling seaport of Salerno
and swordfishing crews at Bagnara Calabra; over the crossroads
of Cosenza; around the palace and formal gardens of old Caserta,
the abbey at MonteCassino, the Pope's summer residence at Lake
CastelGondolfo, the breathtaking fountains at Tivoli Gardens
(Villa D'Este) and, with a bird's eye view, the striking juxtaposition
of ancient and modern Rome. We see the most well known sites
of these cities - but from an unprecedented perspective.
Southern Style takes viewers on a seamless journey starting
just south of Rome, following along the rugged western coastline
to the toe of the "boot" at Reggio Calabria, and then back
inland over the countryside to Rome. Shot in high-definition
from a helicopter-mounted camera, images of Italy no tourist's
camera could capture, informative and poetic narration, and
a soundtrack that resonates with the history and beauty of
the region combine for an incomparable celebration of southern
Italy's considerable charms.
Sicily
Shot in high definition from a helicopter-mounted camera, VISIONS
OF SICILY showcases the unique and dramatic beauty of a place
like no other. A part of Italy but very much a land unto itself,
Sicily has always defied categorization with.– its geography
born of powerful volcanic forces and shaped by the influence
of conquering Greek, Iberian, Roman, Byzantine, North African,
Arab, French and central European cultures throughout the centuries.
Now seen from an aerial advantage, it exceeds expectations.
VISIONS OF SICILY is a guided tour physically impossible by
any other means, informed by a narrative as richly textured
as the island's rocky crags and set to a soundtrack distinctly
Sicilian in its variety. From ancient fishing ports to modern
autostradas, the helicopter surveys all that Sicily was and
has become.
VISIONS OF SICILY begins as most Sicilian stories have for
3,000 years, at the ancient port of Messina on the northeast
tip of the island. The awesome Aeolian archipelago requires
a short detour off the coast to reveal rocky islands as unpredictable
as the Greek god of the winds that was their namesake – Vulcano,
Stromboli, and Lipari among them - before embarking back to
the mainland for a seamless tour marked by blankets of lush
green, terracotta rooftops, azure waters, and the seductive
haze of volcanic craters. See full description at www.wliw.org/productions/sicily.html
Description: Exclusive companion VHS set of three shrink wrapped
VHS tapes or boxed set of three DVD discs includes Visions
of Sicily, Visions of Italy: Southern Style, Visions of Italy:

Travelling along the Tyrannean coastline, VISIONS OF SICILY
takes in the labyrinth of winding streets in medieval Cefalù; the energy of the island's largest city, Palermo; and in between, the panoramic view from La Rocca and the famous hotsprings of Termini Imerse. On the western part of the island, Trapani's world famous salt flats stretch on the horizon, and then Sicily softens into gentle hills, fertile valleys, the mythic paradise of Isola della Fémmine,
and the vineyards of Marsala.
To the south, VISIONS OF SICILY offers small agricultural towns; Agrigento and the valley of the temples; and fertile central plains where the earth lies in sharp folds, not certain whether it is really land or a breaking wave. Here Enna, a tower 3,250 feet above sea level, offers one of the most striking views of the island. Inland, orange and lemon groves beg for high definition technology to include an olfactory option.
The flight continues around, through and over the navigable
heights of Monti Iblie, the Ionian sea to the east along to
Siracusa; then north to Catania, rebuilt after volcanic destruction
into a modern city grid, its original fortress, Castella Ursino,
pushed back hundreds of yards by a great lava flow; up the
coast to chic Taormina, once a quiet coastal town, now tranquil
only from the air; past the scenic amphitheater whose architectural
heritage - built by Greeks and enlarged by Romans – typifies
Sicilian history; and its final destination, the enigmatic
majesty of Mount Etna towering in the western sky.
