Long Synopsis

Fifteen years ago, thirteen-year-old Una (Rooney Mara, Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) was seduced and then abruptly abandoned by Ray (Ben Mendelsohn, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), a crime for which he spent four years in prison. As she grows into an adult, Una’s feelings for Ray haunt her. She wants answers about their taboo affair, his feelings and to finally get the closure she has needed for so long. A magazine article inspires her to track him down. Her surprise visit to Ray’s workplace threatens to destroy his new life and marriage. Fellow employees Mark (Tobias Menzies, Outlander) and Scott (Riz Ahmed, The Night Of) know nothing of their boss’ clandestine past, so she uses Scott to get a glimpse of Ray’s new family. Unspoken secrets and buried memories surface as she and Ray sift through the wreckage of their past, raising unresolved longings within a complicated web, of desire and guilt. Directed by Benedict Andrews, Una is based on “Blackbird,” the play Blackbird, written by David Harrower.
